Moissanite is a mineral that rarely occurs in nature and is usually produced in the laboratory. As it resembles a diamond in many ways and at the same time has extraordinary characteristics, moissanite is also known as “imitation diamond”. The difference between the two minerals is that a diamond consists of hard-pressed carbon, whereas a moissanite is composed of silicon carbide. On the Moh's scale of hardness for gemstones, moissanite has a very high value of 9.25, which can be attributed to its resistance and very hard strucutre.
